Description

A photograph of the sidewalk in front of the Students Book Corporation (Bookie), visible to the right. Students, and perhaps Dean Wegner (the 3rd person from the left), walk on a Fall/Winter day. To the left, row of trees have lost their leaves, early automobiles are present as is the old water tower once located on College Hill. The Students Book Corporation (Bookie) was erected in 1923 at a cost of $29,185. Financed by the Associated Students, the original wood framed building with exterior brick stood in the site of the present Bookie. In addition to textbooks, the Bookie also contained the campus coffee shop. Inside a long soda fountain with levers provided students with fountain drinks, ice cream, coffee; and a dozed high-backed booths places to sit. In 1954, the original structure was razed and a new Bookie was build for $348,600, again financed by the Associated Students.
